Empty Eyes / Steven and Michael

Read this one along with the last story. They are the only two stories that are connected to each other. 

Segment 5 : Steven and Michael

16 July

Del came today to stay with us for the summer. I am very happy. She is pretty and we can play. Steven says she is too little but I don’t mind. I like our cousin. She brought me these diaries so I can write. They were my birthday gift. Steven says they look girly but I like them.

20 July

We are having much fun. I am very happy this summer. We play all day and we eat ice cream and we swim. I try to teach Del to swim but she is afraid of water.

1 August

Steven broke my favorite car today. He always breaks my things when I don’t want to give them to him. This is not fair. He is older and stronger now but I will grow up too. I will be stronger than him and he will not dare break my toys.

13 August

Del gave me a flower today and kissed me. I will hide it in this notebook so no one can find it. Steven is curious of what I write in my diary but he will never find it. This is my secret.

23 August

Summer will be over soon. We will have to go back in town. I won’t see Del until Christmas. I don’t like this. I would like Del to stay forever with us.

30 August

Steven said that if I gave him my green car he would show me dad’s secret. I did. He was not lying this time. When everyone went to bed we followed dad. He was not alone. He was holding Annie’s hand. Annie is older than Del. She is like me. Dad walked with her in the trees. They stopped in a place with many many trees. Steven and I made no sounds. Dad put a blanket down and Annie sat on it. Dad said something to her. Then her pants were gone and dad’s pants were gone too. Dad lied on Annie and she began to cry but not too loud. After some time they got up. Dad gave Annie some candies. And they came back to the house.

27 September

I killed Del’s parents. I know I did. And now she is sad because of me. Because I wished her to stay with us. Now that her parents are dead she will stay with us. Mom cleaned a room for her. I have the same room with Steven.

2 October

I hate Steven. I hate him. Del was my friend. And he took her. He goes to her room at nights and lies on her like dad did with Annie. Del does not talk to me anymore. She don’t give me flowers. She don’t kiss me. Now she is with Steven.

17 October

I beat Steven today. I told him I know about Del. He laughed. He says it’s easy to do it like dad. It’s fun. He promised to show me how tonight. Del will be my friend again.

29 November

I am stronger than Steven. He don’t go to Del’s room anymore. Says he is bored of her crying but he is a liar. Del does not cry anymore. She don’t fight. She is very quiet. Only her eyes are red when I leave.

9 December

I am scared. Please God, don’t take Del. She is my friend. I will marry her when I grow up. It don’t matter she’s my cousin. I will make her happy, I promise. Please, don’t let her die. I will not go to her room again if she hurts. Don’t let her be sad and hate me.© Constance M.
